Absolutely splendid meal from start to finish with attentive and informed service in this warm, dimly lit saloon-style farm-to-table new American restaurant. We started with a quartet of creamy deviled eggs accented with crispy onion, on a delicious bed of pickled carrot and radish slaw. Next we shared roasted bone marrow with grilled bread, accompanied by pickled pistachios and for seasoning, some coarse salt. The extraction of the marrow is a bit of an experience but the wait staff are excellent guides so don't feel shy about asking. The reward was worth it, the fatty marrow with a pinch of salt on the bread was everything. Next was the cucumber and feta salad in a gorgeous green lemon balm emulsion with chive, fennel and benne seeds. Vibrant with cool flavor, it also served as a palette cleanser from the marrow. For our mains, we split two dishes: the burger and bucatini. The burger with white cheddar and smoky bacon was perfectly cooked and literally dripping with indulgent flavor, and the fresh lettuce, tomato and onion added balance and texture to each bite. The bucatini was a savory delight, with a perfectly ground and blended dry pork ragu, accented with chives, garlic chips, and and sarvechhio. It needed nothing more, a fully complete and engaging dish. We finished the meal with the candy bar dessert, with caramel and chocolate mousse bounded by thin and crunchy shortbread. Heaven. Throughout, I sipped on a very boozy cocktail called the Ambisinistrous, with bahnez mezcal, rye, campari and foro amoro. Registers like a Boulevardier. Strong but well balanced. Staff was extremely friendly with collaborative service. Recommend highly. Can't wait to return.
How was this my first visit? Came here for some girl talk after pedicures and it was perfect. Very classy elegant place perfect for cocktail date night or hang out seesh. And the shareables were perfect for 2! We got the chacuterie plate, the deviled eggs, and both of us got the bartenders trust fall. My friend got a gin based drink while i got the anklebitter which is a rum based drink that shouldve been called the ankle spreader. My word. It was so good. I very rarely give 5 out of 5 but this place earned it. I can't wait to go back!
I absolutely love this place. We've gone many times since 2018, and a lot of Easters, this is where we eat. I think We've done 4 or 5, including today. They always sit us at the table we request, they are always EXTREMELY nice and warming. We wear the same outfit each year and it's become a tradition. They always let me be weird and order 'a bowl of the stuff that goes under the deviled eggs'. It's delicious, as is everything every single time.
What a delightful little spot to gather with friends for apps & cocktails! In DC for the night and met some besties in their neck of the woods - Capitol Hill… easy access from metro. Welcoming atmosphere and fun history of the joint shared by the hostess. Love old speakeasy’s! Nice menu; lots of tasty options to share and a fun, creative cocktail menu. Great service & decent prices for this area. A neighborhood gem!
I’m talking about Fight Club, which is against the first rule so I’ll probably get in trouble for this review - but wow we were blown away! My boyfriend and I came here after seeing an article about their bar having amazing food. Their food was so great that we cancelled our brunch plans for the next morning, invited a friend, and came back here instead! On the first night we had their wedge salad which is a MUST appetizer, along with their French fries which are to die for. BLT and Fight Club sandwich to follow, and they were both delicious choices. We tried some of their cocktails, my favorite was probably the mezcal draft cocktail they make - or The Green New Dill. The housemade ice cream sandwiches were a huge hit, double chocolate being my favorite. For brunch we tried the burger, breakfast burrito (copycat Taco Bell burrito), and brisket biscuit. All were amazing, my boyfriend said it was top 5 burgers he’s ever had…and burgers are his favorite food so that is really saying something!!! Thank you FC, we will be back for sure!
i went with two friends and we all loved the brunch experience! the food is reasonably priced and our server was very friendly and great. the restaurant itself is beautiful. i got the lemon ricotta pancakes, the grapefruit mimosa, and we shared the cinnamon rolls. i recommend all of them.
This was a culinary experience to behold. Got two sandwiches, their namesake being Fight Club and a fried chicken sandwich. Both were out of this world in terms of multiple layers of flavor. The fried chicken sandwich seemed to have these in house made maple bread buns, so it was like a fried chicken waffle with spicy Mayo, it was like a hint but it didn’t scream that it was a take on it which is cool. Then the banana pudding was more like this really cool sweet and salty dip. Like they did some serious testing on this to get the right consistency of the banana pudding to chip ratio so nothing is too much to break the chip or be a mess. The ice cream sandwich seemed to also be in house made which is an amazing experience in itself. Where in DC makes their own ice cream sandwiches?!?! Gah this place is perfect.
Fantastic brunch spot! If it’s good weather you can sit out on the back patio which is super quiet and pleasant, or there’s a decent amount of indoor seating. We looooved the shrimp and grits and the Dutch Baby (skillet pancake with ham and poached eggs on top!) and the biscuits. Great service too, and a really cool vibe that doesn’t feel touristy or cheesy.
